I found the castle good to see but the price was rather to much for what it is .

This was an interesting castle to visit. You are able to explore what is left of the insides of the castle and the surrounding earthworks. It was quite beautiful.
The castle is free to English Heritage members. Everyone else has to pay. When we went, the ticket office was closed, but there was an honesty box.
There is a car park and toilets, though the toilets were locked. They are only open at the weekend.
There is disability access to the grounds, but not inside the castle. The castle has steps, narrow passages, and uneven ground

Travelled hours to get here on the basis that it would be open on NYE 10am-4pm according to the official English Heritage website (and Google) to turn up and find it closed all day and a sign to say only open Wed-Sun

Castle Rising is a fantastic place to look around! It is one of the best motte and bailey castles around, and in pretty good condition, given it's age, for you to walk around and explore. The main Keep/Castle still has multiple levels to go up and down, and useful information in displayed to explain what is what, with plenty of history to give you good insight into the place.
The grounds are also perfect in the summer for picnics as well, which is a bonus!
